Rhinoplasty is surgery of the nose, often including internal as well as small external incisions in order to improve the shape of the nose and the ability to breathe through the nose. Often, the skeleton of the nose, including cartilage and sometimes bone is rearranged to achieve the desired result.
This surgery includes the manipulation and rearrangement of the skin and deeper tissues of the face in order to restore a more youthful appearance. It may involve the elimination of vertical muscle bands of the neck, tightening of the jowls, improving the "turkey gobbler" contour of the neck and better defining the outline of the lower jaw.
The appearance and position of the eyebrows and eyelids are closely associated with expression of emotions as well as aging and general health. Repositioning of these structures can result in a younger and less tired looking face. Baggy upper eyelids may cause partial obstruction of vision. Correction of this deformity can relieve obstruction of vision.
This surgery can be done as a stand alone procedure to improve fac ial contour by removing fat from the neck and the cheeks or liposuction may be part of facelift surgery.
This type of surgery includes repair of congenital ear deformities such as prominent ears as well as reconstruction of the ears following excision of tumors or traumatic injury. Torn earlobes can be repaired, often under local anesthesia.
